On a trip to the craft store recently I spied those wooden clothespins and, of course, they looked like angels to me. I bought the clothespins, some white paper doilies and a bottle of silver glitter glue. Everything else for this project I had in the craft closet already. There are some felt squares, chenille stems, some gold card stock, a needle, thread and my Holly Hobby pin cushion.
My first idea was to use the white felt to make the angel gown. This turned out to be a bad idea. The felt is too heavy and bulky to hang properly. So I scrounged in my fabric stash and came up with some white fabric I used to line the curtains I made in my daughters room. Don't worry if you are not a sewer, I will give you a non-material version of this craft as well. It's very easy.
First lay your pin on the fabric and cut along the bottom of the pin. Cut about triple the width of the pin.
Like this.
Now take your needle and thread and do a quick running stitch along the top of your square. Pull.
Now stick the pin in the middle and wrap the thread around the little neck a few times. Secure with a bead of glue. Don't worry if this is a little sloppy, you'll be covering it up.
Now take your chenille stems and cut about a six inch length. I used silver and gold since this would be the halo. Yellow or white would work fine as well.
Now wrap one end around the neck, to cover any messiness there and have the other end sticking up from the back. Then bend it into a circle for the halo.
Now our little angel needs it's wings (do you hear bells ringing??). I used a six inch white doiley. Fold your doiley in half and run a bead of glue down the middle of the doiley. Lay your angel down and glue on the wings. Listen for the bells.
You're almost done.
Take a piece of card stock, I used white, measure two inches by one inch, fold in half and write the name of your favorite hymn on the front cover. Glue to the angel where her hands would be.
Now you could glue a pretty ribbon to her back and she would make a lovely ornament. I plan to buy a little table top tree and cover it with a heavenly choir. Or she could sit on a shelf or decorate a special package.
If you don't have any fabric simply glue a doily directly on to the pin as a dress. I just cut the round doily in half and rolled it around the pin. Everything else remains the same.
We also used red tissue paper to make a choir boy. A little doily on the shoulders to represent the surplus and he came out quite well.
Enjoy your heavenly choir!
How beautiful, Mary Ellen! You are so creative. What a wonderful idea for the kids and I to make. Thank you!
