Beginning on June 19th our beloved Pope Benedict declared this the Year of the Priest. The year will conclude on June 19th 2010 with an international gathering of priests in Rome.
This is a wonderful opportunity for parents to educate their children about the various duties of our holy priests as well as encouraging vocations among our sons.
Toward that end one of my favorite Liturgical Year resources Lapbooks for Catholics has put together a Faith Folder for The Year of the Priest. Lindy Meyer is the incredibly talented and creative mother of six children and creates these folders so that we can have a fun hands-on activity to increase our children's knowledge and love of their faith.
Lindy is also generous. She is going to let me give away on of her lovely Year of the Priest Faith Folders to one of my readers. So leave me a comment in this post and I'll pick a lucky winner on Sunday. Spread the word by posting the contest on your blog and linking back here and I'll enter your name twice. I'm that nice.
In the meantime go cruise around Lindy's site and see all of the lovely products she's created. Since many of us are planning next year's school work now is a good time to see what fun resources are available to help make the school year memorable for the children. The prices are reasonable and the products are lovely.
Comments will be closed by noon on Sunday.
Have a blessed day.

Thanks. I would love this. Will be starting to homeschool this coming year ... preschool! Love your blog.

I'd love to win this for our family. We enjoy lapbooking (and were reps for a different lapbook company this year at conferences), but the idea of Catholic lapbooks is fantastic. I might just have to order up her prayers one for the younger boys (5 and 8) to really learn their prayers!

Please consider Alice G. as a possible recipient. In faith filled meetings at her home, prayer always includes petitions for more holy priests. This seems like it might be a fitting tribute. Thanks for mentioning this opportunity!

This would be an excellent activity for my twin boys - age 7 - as they will be preparing to make their First Holy Communion this coming year!

We've never done a lap book (blush) - this would be great!

How exciting! I've seen so many lapbooks but not Catholic ones so this is an incredible resource. I have four boys and a little lady and my boys have expressed interest in the priesthood (they are still too little but the fact that they actually express and interest makes my heart jump for joy!). I'm also new to homeschooling and never made a lapbook!

I used parts of their Works of Mercy, and it was amazing! We just made our first real lapbook at the end of the academic year, so I would LOVE to start another one, especially THIS one!

I haven't yet used lap books with my nine kids, but I think I have some kids of the appropriate age and learning style. And I have a seven year old boy that told me last week he would like to be a priest. I'd like to keep that alive!

I would love this lapbook! We are starting a homeschooling support group in our parish and want to honor and learn about our priest this year. I think it is wonderful that the Pope has made this the year of priests. Thank you for offering this!

The year of the Preist began on my twins( B/G)7th birthday and ends on thier 8th. This project might be a neat way to inspire some priests in this household of 6 boys and 4 girls!Maybe even my twin son!
