I'm talking a cocktail people.
This time of year can be, let's say stressful. No matter how much we talk about calming down, not doing too much and finding the peace and love, yeah, it's stressful.
So on Friday night, mommy needs a cocktail.
Thank God we are Catholic and can imbibe. In the words of St Thomas Aquinas in his Treatise on the Virtues, "Hinc bibere usque ad hilaritatem per se `quidem non est illcitum," hence to drink to the point of hilarity is not illicit.
I would suggest a certain temperance in how often you achieve hilarity but a certain festivity, especially at this time of year, is encouraged.
At least by me.
So I'm adding a new category to the site, Imbibe. I'm hoping it's popular. I will, on occasion, share a seasonal type cocktail recipe or a wine I am fond of and hopefully you will join us in the celebration.
So, nothing says December like eggnog. I am not generally fond of sweet drinks but I do like eggnog and if you tell yourself it's dessert then it's good.
2 oz of your favorite eggnog (plain, don't do the flavored one)
1 oz vanilla vodka (I use Absolut Vanilla Vodka, I just like the flavor of that one)
1 oz Frangelico
Add ice to your cocktail shaker ,if you don't have a cocktail shaker put one on your Christmas list, (mine is similar to this) then use a wide mouth water bottle you have snatched from your children. Even a mason jar will do in a pinch.
Add the ingredients to the shaker and shake VIGOROUSLY. Cocktails must be chilled this way to be good.
Pour into a martini glass (I buy them at the thrift store for a quarter) and sprinkle a little cinnamon on top.
If you want you can substitute Amaretto for the Frangelico, Frangelico is hazelnut liquer while Amaretto is almond. I am not a huge fan of Amaretto so I went for Frangelico. I'm thinking Kalhua might work too. I'll have to try that.
So I hope you enjoy a little TGIF relaxation time and if you enjoy the cocktail please let us know.
